Command 8 issues

Hi, This has probably been covered somewhere but i'm yet to find it. I've just got a Command 8 to run with PT8.1 on windows 7 and i can't get it working properly. I'm at the stage where the command 8 responds to what is happening on the screen but only some of the buttons on the surface effect the program. So i can change edit to mix windows but moving the faders, pressing play,record ect have no effect on the program. Going through the utilities section on the command 8 indicates everything is functioning at that end. Any ideas?
