Playing my own sound on a midi-keyboard

Hi guys!

I've looked everywhere with no luck. This is so basic so I'm questioning if I'm just an idiot. I want to use my sounds from my external hard drive in Pro Tools. I want to find one of my kicks and then play it through my midikeyboard to make my beat.

I have used Structure Free before but it only lets me use 4 instances of the plug-in at a time!

I really just want to make beats with the sounds I have already. Do I really need to purchase something like Native Instruments Kontakt to play my sound? I know that in FL STUDIO and Logic you just drag the file you what to work with into the session and you can use in on your piano roll etc.

Well, you will need some kind of sample player. Pro Tools doesn't include one, except for Structure Free. There are plenty to choose from. For what you are talking about I think FXpansion Geist sounds better than Kontakt. Or maybe Battery 4 or Maschine, or anything more beat and drum oriented.
