Thumbs down ProTools 9.0.2 Updater and Full Install for MAC are *OFFICIALLY BROKEN*

Both the Updater and Full Install .dmg images for 9.0.2 suffer from a missing file that is causing the image to appear corrupt and therefore unmountable.

This is VERY BAD as the latest Mac 10.6.7 update * requires * 9.0.2 in order to operate properly (and recognize my 003). I'm completely dead in the water right now.

Is anyone from Avid reading this? I don't want to have to pay $40 for an ASC code that lets me talk to someone on the phone in order to report your YOUR problem for you.

Please fix ASAP.

thank you and have a nice day,
-s

Can't help you but I agree the $40 charge to talk to someone is the worst customer service policy I have EVER seen.

Totally agree, it reminds me of a law here in AZ where payday loans were charging up to 410%, and the state had enough of that and capped it at 36%

Oh no, I'm next. Truth either helps or hurts, depends on what side your on.
spylus try clean install of 9.0.1 then the audio drivers, but first reinstall your OS to 16.6.3, then the combo update 10.6.6

GordenFreeman, what are you referring to (R)pot?, my crackling is the volume knob.

What are you talking about? I downloaded the 9.0.2 Mac update installer twice this week, reinstalled my PT four times (some testing/troubleshooting, never mind ) and had absolutely no problems with mounting the installer images. Can't comment on the 9.0.2 full installer as I have a boxed version.

Nevermind, only my last post was deleted because it contained profanity and such.

Anyway, I have 9.0.2 and it installed fine, as far as I recall. Maybe the download is getting corrupted? Happens a lot

Is 9.0.2 a full installer, or an update installer?
And I have say your at the mercy of your connection when downloading such a large file. The first I did a full download of 9.0.1 it got stuck after two hours.

There are both, but the full installer is only available to you if you have bought the downloadable version (or crossgrade). If you have a box version, you have to install 9.0.0 from the install DVD and then update to 9.0.2 using the update installer.

Quite right, although it has been a very long time since I experienced a corrupted file after download... a few years. And I do have a WiFi connection (a very fast one though).

Anyway, from my recent experience, the 9.0.2 update installer for Mac is perfectly fine.

Default *UPDATE* - ProTools 9.0.2 Updater and Full Install for MAC are *OFFICIALLY BROKEN*

Ok folks, more information:

On my desktop, both the Mac 9.0.2 Updater and Full Installer (yes, I'm a cross-grader – you should see my stocking collection...) can not be mounted with the message "Image data corrupted".

Using Pacifist, the same file, something having to do with "Tech Support Utility v3 Mac", is reported with a problem in both the Updater and Installer. I believe the problem has something to do with file permissions. Interestingly enough, the zip file for this "Tech Support Utility v3 Mac" is dated April 16th, 2011, in both versions - much more recent than the 9.0.2 announcement.

NOW, I AM able to mount the EXACT SAME IMAGE FILES on my laptop also running Snow Leopard – although I've shied away from updating to 10.6.7 on that machine for obvious reasons.

Mounting my laptop remotely, I was then able to install 9.0.2 on my desktop Mac Pro running 10.6.7. NO DICE – ProTools still can not see my 003 interface, instead it can only see the "Pro Tools Aggregate I/O". I did make sure to install the latest Midi I/O and 002/003 Drivers from Avid for 9.0.

So, after having tried 9.0.1 as well, it just looks like 10.6.7 is simply not supported and not yet compatible.

There ARE other people reporting this issue with the Installer/Updater if you look around the forums, but it appears unclear as to whether this is a Mac OS or ProTools issue.

I guess I wait as there's no way I can reinstall the OS on the desktop, way too many apps to replace on there.

laptop-bound,

-s

Smile *UPDATE 2 – SUCCESS!!!* Re: ProTools 9.0.2 Updater and Full Install for MAC

It finally dawned on me that the "ProTools Aggregate I/O" looked pretty fishy as the only option in ProTools, even if it wasn't selected as the default I/O by the OS in Audio Preferences.

Looking around, I saw the post about deleting com.apple.audio.AggregateDevices.plist from /Library/Preferences and rebooting ProTools and it worked!

I have no idea how 10.6.7 did this but that appears to have fixed my problem.

Cheers everyone, I'm pouring a drink.
