Understanding how different methods work is good but don't get lost in that search or you'll lose the muse. At one time I was a fan of over-thinking things and found the sound wasn't any better but actually worse. Frequency balances off, sounds would get lost in the shuffle, etc.

Oh yeah don't forget this:
Don't make judgements on a track's sound when it's soloed but when it's playing with the rest of the mix. And sometimes too many fx can make that worse.

Yes, I never evaluate soloed and try to keep fx to a minimum. Thanks!
