Default Question about dlog files

Quick question about the dlogs.... should I be able to read them or are they really supposed to look like garbage to human eyes?

I'm curious about them as I'm trying to track down why 8.0.4cs2 has been giving me fits lately.

If they are unreadable by humans, is there a tool that I could use to read them? I'm a sysadmin by day & I like to read logs.

thanks.
