Default Batch metadata editor ixml to bwdescription

So the problem is that the ixml (that soundminer reads) is correct but the BWdescriptions (that pro tools reads) are wrong.

Does anybody out there know of a utility that can BATCH copy all the ixml data to the BW descriptions?

Soundminer Pro does this. Also I think soundgrinder too.

copying 'all the iXML data' to bwdescriptions can be quite tricky. AFAIK the bext chunk only has a limited size.
When you copy all the iXML data (sound roll, channel names, description, scene, take, UID, notes etc. etc.) all to the description it can lead to truncation of the info.

On the other hand PT reads almost all iXML info as well. Unless you need all the info in the bw description you can easily read and search through them in workspace as well. Of course at quite a slow speed compared to something like soundminer.

Protools is putting the channel information in the clips on the timeline using the bwdescription rather than the ixml. Is there any way to make it use the ixml?

Ah, OK. Now I'm starting to understand what you are trying to achieve.
No, I don't think so. It's a bit weird that you have empty bext info but something in the iXML fields. All the recorders I know fill in both chunks. Who did the bext info get stripped?

The channel-info can be copied with WaveAgent as well I think. Have you tried that. WA usually mirrors bext and iXML fields.

forgot:

Could this have been recorded on an Aaton Cantar running an outdated firmware?

Years ago the Canter only stored the channel name info in the iXML field and not the bext chunk to avoid truncation of long channel info labels.

They changed this and started mirroring bext and iXML info at a certain point. But I think this happened many years ago.

Just a thought.

We're not sure how the "bext" has gone rogue.
Like you say - it should mirror the ixml.
Fostex PD606
We've got a few clunky fix methods involving soundminer and wave agent but ideally we would just load them into an app and press "copy ixml to bext" and be done with it.

Is it worth getting in touch with the recordist and ask him for a copy of the originals from a backup he might still have?

The PD606 hasn't been updated in quite a while (could be years) but I'm sure it used to write channel names to the bext-chunk last time I saw one.

Probably easier than messing around with a clunky work-around? Just a thought.
