Assuming they are mic'ing their cabs (which they probably are) they have been known to use Tonetubby speakers, at least live, probably in the studio too.

In my experience they are the easiest speakers to get a tight sound out of, especially when mic'ing them.

That and the other tricks mentioned above too.

I often find wikipedia a great source for this kind of information, what was used on the recordings, what is used live, mics, speakers, the works. Check it out!

If you want your tone tight, keep the master low in the amp block, and boost the preamp gain (low gain, high level) with a Dist pedal. The higher you set the master, the looser the feel and the more breakup you'll get.

Best advice I can offer....Turn the gain down! Lowering the preamp gain tightens everything up, makes the guitars thump and punch better and gives more overall clarity to the guitars in the mix. You'd be surprised at how much gain you DON"T need when recording. Once a certain saturation point is hit with distortion, the tone suffers---especially when recording in the digital realm.

Reviving this thread as this week i've been listening to the latest Nickelback album and the guitar tone IMO is excellent. On distortion rhythm parts do you think they have any reverb or delay tricks going on to make them so big, and what about multiband compressing the guitar. There seems to be no fizz but loads of bark that just make the guitars sound massive.

For solo parts again they sound big, are they using the Classic h3000 pitchshifting effect and what delays or reverb are they using. I'm trying to up my game with effects to give my recordings more space and professionalism. Any help here would be much appreciated.

Thanks guys
