Default Master fader degrades audio quality?

Hello,

A friend of mine who uses a PT TDM system told me that when running tracks through a master fader, it degrades the audio quality... as opposed to not running through a master fader. Anyone have any experience with this, or have any comments? I have not done a test myself yet. But the guy I know is an excellent highly experienced producer / engineer and generally knows what he's doing... so he must have a good reason for telling me this. However, i'd like some other opinions. thanks

Ask him why there is degradation. I would be interested in hearing his reason. I don't get it.

A master fader set at 0dB is the same thing as a cable. What you put in is what you get out, unless the cable (fader) is defective.

1. just bounce a track with a master fader.
2. Do the same without.
3 .Record your mix on 2 tracks within the session.

Make sure there is no difference in levels offcourse.

Now get these tracks into a seperate session.
Put them on tracks (mute on of the 3)
Insert a plugin which has a phase reverse switch on it. Hit phase reverse. And all your audio will be dissapeared. If not ?? there is indeed a difference.

I'm quite sure there's not though.

Goodluck
