Default surround panning added feature plugin?

I'd really love the Pro Tools surround panners on a 3.0 or larger track to behave the same way the surround panners do on a stereo track, with multiple panning windows for each track. It could default to .L>L, .C>C, etc, but I'd love to have the option of panning the .R track only to L (e.g.) without having to split the 5.1 track into 6 mono tracks. Any suggestions for this? Does a 3rd party plugin exist? TIA.
