Default no sound from Scarlett 2i2

This is either a Windows 10 problem or a driver problem (not specific to PT), but I thought I might direct the questions here anyway. I disconnected all my equipment to make a move. I connected it back together and now the Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 won't put out any sound. I also updated the driver and it still won't work.

After booting the computer up, the green light on the Scarlett is on. Windows recognizes the Scarlett.

I can be in Pro Tools, and the cursor plays (moves across the screen) but no sound.

Outside of PT, iTunes won't make any sound, and when I click on the sound icon at the bottom right, and choose the Focusrite device, and do a test, the test tries to work but there is no sound coming out.

I have disabled all Windows Audio devices, and chosen to enable only the Focusrite. I've had it work this way for months and months but now all of a sudden it won't put out any sound. I've also tried disabling the Focusrite and enabling all the Windows devices. I've also enabled all, and disabled all. Nothing works. I've already tried troubleshooting it with Windows troubleshooter. Nothing. And yes, the volume is up, speakers are on.

Any thoughts?

Default Re: no sound from Scarlett 2i2

ok, I unplugged and plugged the usb cord on the interface and I got sound. But it's choppy sound. PT pops and clicks, and hesitates. When I'm out of PT, and in Win 10, and I get notifications from email or something like that, the sound is choppy and static. The whole apparatus works fine on my laptop.. But I'd rather be mixing on this computer.

So since it sounds like it's in the computer, I did a report on it, here it is. If anyone has any ideas, I'd be much appreciative.

Thanks for being proactive with the Sandra report, nothing there jumps out (except Kaspersky AV software which you should disable or even better IMNSHO remove every last part of that crapware).

Pro Tools version? (it's hard to know wether to signature files are accurate/up to date).

What exact interface driver are you using? ASIO4ALL or the native ASIO driver? (you should be using the native driver). What exact driver version is installed and what exactly is the playback engine set to? (don't assume go look/provide a screenshot).

Don't have Windows set to use the interface at all, just Pro Tools.

Your session sample rate is? IO buffer size is?

You are recording to what drive? (double check the session really is recording audio files to your Glyph external drive).

If on Pro Tools 12? Is disk Cache enabled? Set it to a size not "standard".

Is your system fully optimized? What other standard troubleshooting have you tried? Trashing prefs? Starting with a new empty session. etc.

Default Re: no sound from Scarlett 2i2

I'm getting the blue Windows screen without PT running by simply trying to do a Windows sound test. I've tried running everything (put and iTunes) with Kaspersky disabled and no difference.
PT version 12.6.1. I'm using the latest Scarlett 2i2 driver for Windows 10 from Focusrite website. I need to do a screen shot but what I do know for sure is I'm in 44.1kHz 512 samples. Playback engine is set to the Focusrite USB.
The audio files are being recorded to and playing off the Glyph. Cache is enabled set to normal.
But I need to stress it's not the PT settings. It's not the Glyph. It's doing this without PT launched. Windows is not using the Scarlett. Only PT. I've fully optimized this computer according to Avid recommendations. I'll try trashing prefs and see how it works creating a new session. But if it's giving me a blue error screen outside of PT, like in iTunes, I'm not understanding

What is a "blue error screen"? You mean the entire computer is crashing with a blue screen/blue screen of death (BSOD)? When did this start happening? What exactly do you need to do to make that happen? What exactly do you see on the screen. What shows up in Windows Event Viewer for the times this happens? (or in the Windows Reliability Monitor, same stuff). Copy and paste the text of intersting stuff there here.

More clarity/precision would help here..., e.g. not "installed latest", go into the device manager and tell us the exact version of the driver shown there.

When you say "Windows is not using the Scarlett" what do you mean? Is it not being used to make sound at that time, what is the Windows audio device actually set to. What audio device is iTunes trying to use when the system has a BSOD?

Drivers are always suspects in BSOD, event viewer info will help. but you may need to uninstall the 2i2 drivers and see if you can get other apps stable using the Windows audio devices.

Cache = "normal" means disabled, which I had meant to clarify earlier but misstyped standard for normal. Not going to help you with a BSOD but.

If you are getting BSOD and have other problems. you may have a full clean Windows install in your future. If you do that, don't install any AV crapware, or hardware vendor's "value-add" crapware, and only install as few drivers needed to use the system, selecting hem all manually, don't let Windows do this for you (e.g. graphics drivers iLok and 2i2 drivers) and see if Pro Tools will work before installing anything else. It may be a good ide to just grab a spare drive or partition and do that install as a test, being careful not to trash your current bootable partition.

Hey Darryl,
Thanks for all your support here. One thing I hadn't done is trashed the prefs, and that cured the problem in PT. Right now the Scarlett is working for iTunes too, and no crashes yet. I suspect the preferences were interacting in a bad way because I had hooked this all up to my HP Laptop and recorded 8 songs on it for a client, and when I brought the equipment home I didn't take care of trashing the prefs after hooking it back up to my ASUS computer.
