more questions....

#1) 'workspace – from window menu',
- 1) how do you get it to show waveforms, rather than text??,
- and 2) can you chop up these waveforms, from the ‘workspace’ or do you need to move them to a normal track first..

#7) what is 'the m/s method' you speak of....

hmm .. the Parent File will always be in there .. but i think Workspace - under the Window menu / New Workspace, you should see waveforms and you can play them from any place in the file ..

well, stereo spatial mixing .. you might want to try using the M/S method here and dial out some of the Center so that the sides are more prevalent ... if i read you right on this ..

You need to start reading up on these questions and find solutions in the manuals and online videos. You are asking somewhat hard to understand questions and explaining all this on a user forum will be hard as you need the basic understanding first.

When you searched the PDF manual what did it say about "how to get workspace to show?"

(not how to get workspace to show) but asking if in the workspace, you can chop up the waveform, to drag the (divded) parts into regular tracks....

# 7 what is the m/s method, john1192 was speaking of in his post, can someone pls explain this... i am/was talking about vocals that you get pre-recorded, like downloading an acapella track.... i am not talking about recording with some special mike, but to instead make any pre-recorded sounds, more spatial having movement, etc....

can someone p-l-e-a-s-e help me.....

please...

ANSWER: NO .. needs to be on a Track for editing ..

ANSWER: M/S (measn Mid/Side) can be used in mixing as well to add a bit more Width to your mix .. please look up Mid/Side in mixing .. short answer might be quite long as this is a bit of a higher end technique ..

simple way is to use an M/S PLugin .. this will get you there faster ..

cheers john

okay, thank you for the help john...

so i am still a little confused about the workspace under the window menu..
so you can see the waveforms in this workspace? (yes/or no)
but you can not chop them up to take the pieces of the chopping right? (yes/ or no)
.. pls correct me in these matters..

what i am looking for is a place to lay large tracks that are unused mostly...
somewhere to lay the imported files, like the whole imported files...
when really you only want to actually use some small portions of these actual files...
the whole file needs to sit somewhere, where you can chop it up...
and then move the chopped regions to the actual tracks that play...
is there something like this in pro tools?
in cubase it is the 'clips pane' where you put the original imported file
and the 'tracks pane' where you put what actually makes it into the mix...

hi, i answered your questions in my post above .. please look between your questions ... you probably missed them ..

pro tools uses tracks and playlists .. look at the manual for Playlists .. maybe this will help you .. probably close to the Lanes you are referring to in cubase ... i think this is what you are asking ..

or youtube for PLaylists .. i think this will help you ..
