I gotta vote for my homeboys...MOTHERS FINEST

Another Mother Further has been known to actually make my booty move.

Not much, but my booty actually swayed rythmically for about 30 seconds until I noticed and made it stop.

Now THAT is fawnky.

I know this probably doesn't fit the profile of where you guys are going with this, but Trapeze had some really funky stuff for a three piece, and even after Glenn Hughes left the band they had some really funky stuff.
BTW - Glenn Hughes is still putting out some great funky albums today.

Billy Cobham had some really funky stuff. Spectrum, Crosswinds, with the Brecker Bros. have to be mentioned.

The red hot chili peppers Blood sugar sex magic was great.. Go Rick Go. The other ones hmmmmmm
I do like chili's in the knock me down and cover of stevie's higher ground as well.. anything earlier than one hot minute. although i did like a little bit of dave navarro's touch.

Prince sign of times is also a good funkster. There is a bootleg video by prince where he is just jamming funk with a band and it is great. very raw funk in yo face kinda stuff......

isaac hayes the mannnnnnn.. even good ole barry white had some good stuff R.I.P.

RHCP is more like funk influenced rock to me. But, then again... as stated by Funkadelic: "Who says a funk band can't play rock!?"

If you want F.U.N.K. - go for Betty Davis! "Nasty Gal" and "Anti-Love song" are killer songs bound to shake your booty!

"Up for the Down Stroke" & "Give up the Funk/Tear the Roof off the Sucker". I'm listening to P.Funk/UncutFunk as I type. My Dad was the mastering engineer for a lot of the early Funkadelics and Ohio Players (Westbound Records) stuff, I grew-up on funk, my house was all funked-up.

Well when RHCP won a award for best rock they said " We're a funk band." George Clinton even produced one of their albums.

Lets not forget James Brown. Anything Funk was based on those two.
