don't SLAM your levels (to 0 dbfs) to full scale on the master fader with a limiter plug-in (or just your mix in general on the master fader) as to leave the mastering engineer some room to work.

It's especially crucial when staying entirely in the digital domain .

faders go up to +6.0 DB so what is all of this 0db talk? Is one not supposed to set the faders past 0.0DB? Oh so confused..

> 0dBFS should = 0dBFS on all well designed pro digital systems. Actual dBV levels ( what "0" is referenced to ) can vary from system to system. I think PT LE is @ -18 dbV=DFS, but I'm not 100 % positive.

The faders in PTLE are in dBFS or dBV?

Much thanx for all your help!

It should be DFS ( but please don't quote me on that, just got my Mbox like 2 months ago, check the REF Guide ) that is how one can initiate plugins on the Master Fader, which are post fader .

So it wouldn't be a good idea to set up a collection of 24-bit WAV masters that include segues and song-to-song transitions? I plan to incorporate a lot of effects like that, so what would be my best plan of action in this case?

sounds to me like you need CD Architect for that stuff. You should check the program out. It might change the way you are looking at your project. Its a great program for mastering, segways, crossfading songs, and setting up your final run.

i know how to make seques and transitions, but will that throw off the mastering process if I plan to send my material to a real mastering house afterwards?

IMO you should just simply arrange your final running order as described above, without dither/sample rate convertion and send the resulting bounced file to mastering.
If not present @ the mast. session, provide accurate TC locations, where track IDs should be located.

That sounds like a great idea. If I import all the songs into a new Pro Tools session, the creativity with segues and transitions could be limitless. Awesome.
