PT 2018 leaving Digi 002r locked up

Just installed 2018.1.0 last night. I'm using a Digi 002r for my interface and noticed that when I exit Pro Tools, it leaves the Digi 002r locked up. The sample rate light stays lit, but the 1394 status light goes dark and stays dark, meaning (I believe) somehow the firewire connection has been lost. If I power down the 002r and then power it back up, I can use it again, but if I don't, and I try to get back into ProTools, it doesn't see the 002r and uses ASIO4ALL as the interface.

Anyone have any idea what's going on here? Am I missing a setting somewhere to have the system release the 002r when ProTools shuts down, or is this a driver issue?

Some things to consider:
1-ASIO4ALL is a "last-ditch" driver and probably should NOT be used or installed(unless you have a real need for it).
2-002 is unsupported so nobody knows when it will simply no longer work with new PT software.
3-assuming you are on a PC, make sure(in Sound>Properties) that Windows is NOT using the 002 as its "default playback device"

Yes, I had only installed ASIO4ALL to troubleshoot an issue I was having with the Raven software on PT11/12.

And I don't have the 002r set as the default playback device. This is something new with 2018. I never used PT12, but neither 10 nor 11 did this, so...

Nothing new about setting your PT interface to not be used by Windows. It has always caused problems because Windows likes to grab the interface for itself, setting the sample rate, and excluding PT.

Wizzo... I understand it's not new to keep Windows from using an interface. What I meant was new was that ProTools 2018 is locking up my interface on exit, where PT10 and 11 did not.

It could be that the 1394 circuit in the 002R is failing, or that the one in your computer is failing, or some of each. But most likely, it's just that the 00x series is too far out of date to work properly with PT anymore.

FWIW, I'm using an 002R in my home setup with 2018.1 HD and it works fine here with up to date Windows 10.

not sure this is helpful-i'm on mac os 10.13.3

but my digi 002 (console) was not recognized by 2018.1 but is working great with 2018.3

actually it's more stable and more useful than it's been since PT10. also working great with FCPX which it wouldn't do before
