drag file in, copies 2 iterations
Not a big deal but more curious than anything why this sometimes happens. Drag a file in to protools rather than using import, and it duplicates it. Sometimes it doesn't, sometimes it does, and ive even had a few cases where it make 2 copies. What's going on, what's the logic of the code behind this?

Re: drag file in, copies 2 iterations
Drag in what format and number of channel files? You mean it creates a copy in the audio folder within the session folder? That is a setting and pretty much best practice. Create additional copies maybe it is splitting R/L stereo files. You would need to give more precise description of what exactly you mean/are seeing.

Re: drag file in, copies 2 iterations
no i mean it creates 2 tracks. "track name" "track name dup.1" They are the same. I just delete the duplicate no biggie but it's weird. Can't figure out why it does it when it does, and why it doesn't do it when it doesn't.

Re: drag file in, copies 2 iterations
Done it with both mono and stereo files. Done it with both wav and mp3's.

Oh track duplicates... that one has been around a long time. e.g. http://duc.avid.com/showthread.php?t=404923 (and more)
Do you have a file you can share that does this? |

Yes that thread is exactly whats going on. Happened today but it was a mix for a client, don't feel comfortable sharing it publicly on here. Seems like that thread never touched on a why or a solution.

Re: drag file in, copies 2 iterations
Yep. When it happens and you have a file you can share I will try to reproduce it and may want to look at the file/file header carefully. Other obvious things are to try trashing prefs and when you have a file that does this in a session then drag and drop that into to a new empty session (not from a template)... if that does not misbehave the same way then you may have corrupt session(s), or parent template....
... all just basic troubleshooting as I have no idea what is going on... I thought there were other old posts on this but after some googling it does not look like it. |
