Default Face Palm-keeping your plugins up to date

I downloaded 12.6 to try out on a non-revenue session Monday. It was crashy with lots of CPU spikes, and the little light went on in my head that said maybe now was a good time to do a methodical check of the age and version of all my plugs. I like to tell myself that I pretty much stay on top of such things, and I didn't really expect to find anything seriously wrong or out-of-date. Eh, not so much. I got no further down the Manufacturer list than Antares when I discovered I had Auto-Tune 7 installed (I assume Antares moved on to V8 some time ago).

Moved Auto-Tune to Unused, CPU usage dropped around 75% and the crashing stopped. I'm guessing Antares released V8 to stay current while I was merrily Melodyning away, and I never noticed (which is my way of saying it was my screw-up, not Antares').

Maybe I should do this more often. Or even on a regular basis. Now there's an idea.

Peter

AT is certainly a plugin that I've found aggravates CPU spikes in its 64 bit format. RTAS version is very stable, as is the AAX 32 bit version.

With 12.4 and later you should freeze tracks with AT on them to help with the spikes and errors.

It's absolutely a good idea to periodically check for plugin updates. They can cause many issues one might consider as a Pro Tools issue. Of course the only problem is you have to allocate time for that. Have to check many accounts to see if there's something new.

Yeah, i know what you mean...
I´m just checking "PuginUpdate" from Kazrog (http://kazrog.com/products/pluginupdate/), a nice free tool that search through your installed plugins and show you the installed and the actual version...

Thanks for posting. Looks good! However, probably best to use the offer to create an account when installing as I tried to do so afterwards and have had no luck linking an account with the program and hence it won't report the currently available versions

Their Mic Mod plugin always makes my session do weird stuff when I use it as well. They haven't updated that plugin in a couple of years now. I've checked several times and it's always the same version.

And most of the time it doesn't work right. Won't retain the settings after you close a session and reopen it.

Full Kudos to the Toontrack Product Manager. It makes this task very easy.....if only all manufacturers would do the same.
