Default iMac vs. G4 vs. G5 (for my needs) HELP!

This is the post I made on the apple forums... hopefully you guys can help.

Quote:
Hey board,
How are y'all doing? Good? That's good to hear.
Alright, now I need a little bit of help, and I'd be so happy if you guys could get that for me .

Heres my delema: I currently run a studio here in South Florida (Hollywood), and recently the PC [compaq; 512 ram, 40gig drive, 800mhz, pentium III, WinXp] we have, well, it decided to become a really big box with suficsticated stuff that doesn't do anything, instead of a computer (it broke).
And now, I'm looking to make the leap from "P.C." (peice of crap) to the Mac(daddy)
With the budget and all, I'm down to 3 computers.. I have no clue which would be better for me tho'.

(A). The high-end, G4 (dual 1.25, 512 ram, etc). - $1,774
----> Good specs, affordable, good ram, no display, upgradeable.

(B). The Low-End, G5 (dual 1.8, 256 ram, etc). - $1,999
----> Less afforable, faster proc, less ram (gotta upgrade), no display, upgradable.

(C). The 17" iMac (single 1.25 processor, 256 ram, etc) - $1,799
----> Afforable, comes with display, slower proc., less ram, not as upgradeable.

They all come with a superdrive so I can burn CD's, DVD's, and watch/listen to them all.

I am using it mainly to record/edit/mix on my Digi002R's ProTools LE setup (firewire). It needs to run PT with no problems... I'm also going to be using it for reliable burning of CD-Rs. I may use it occasionally for designing something in Photoshop, but not too much. I'm not going online with it, at all.

What would be best for me? PLEASE HELP

THANK you!
THANKS IN ADVANCE,
- AZE (95ENT)

I would suggest B.) since the dual CPU is faster and the G5 is new but also used by many of the PT folks here. In these days where everything becomes obsolete so quickly, I tend to try and jump to the latest if it is battle-tested, especially if the dollar difference is only around $200. Most mac places throw-in extra ram for free. Look around for that and welcome aboard. I recently jumped from PC's to Mac myself...
