Default Non stop Buffer problems Asus laptop in PT8 vista

I have gone through the steps provided on both the digidesign website and the sweetwater website as far as optimizing vista and now it is boiling down to maybe some incompatibility somewhere (god I hope not).
in addition to this report I have a 1 terabyte seagate freeagent pro 7200rpm external that connects either firewire or eSata I have tried both.
I'm using an Mbox 1. and vista home premium *i know its not tested yet.

Please can you help me is my laptop compatible or am I an unfortunate soul?

I think it is difficult to search from these pages especially if you're not familiar with this site and some of these guys are pretty arrogant as well. Why to reply if you don't have anything sensible to say?
If you cannot handle all these "stupid" questions get a break from this forum and get something to do, how about making some music?

Here's a link to some compatibility information:

http://digidesign.com/index.cfm?navi...5&itemid=29191

It has a few steps on optimizing your system for Pro Tools. You should also check the General Troubleshooting thread and do all the optimizations there as well. If you're unable to resolve the issues, we'll need more details, starting with the error numbers you're getting as well as the other specifics mentioned in the Help Us Help You thread.

I'm brand new out here too and have been doing a LOT of reading...It's a little daunting to tell you the truth. I just bought a little PTLE rig with mbox mini and it of course isn't working. Anyone that thinks this is plug-n-play is way off, that's for sure. Myself included. I was really excited but after reading how picky everything is, I wonder if it's even worth it. I'm completely expecting to read somewhere that you must have a GRAY cable going from your computer to your mbox at any moment - black or white will generate a hardware buffer error. lol.

That being said though - Just by reading through the posts out here, I have already learned a lot of valuable info and things to check if something doesn't work - so I would definitely recommend doing that to anyone.

Good luck...

Brian

All I can say is thank you for the good words I am currently downloading the latency test. I understand fully that the digi website doesnt recognize my laptop as compatible yet *or more likely uncompatible. I will try some more optimizing and will within a day or so give the exact error numbers (im sure they were all in the 9000s and either said increase or soon after increasing they said decrease the buffer size) And most importantly if you know any good suppliers of gray cables please let me know, here in Tokyo were I live we only get black or white cables to connect and I think so far this is the break in the case I needed.

Hate to say this but ableton 7 is working like a charm with the mbox for all those who care. Still I want what I came for and Im willing to work for it: pro tools. Anyone willing to help will be included.
peace

Question Re: Non stop Buffer problems Asus laptop in PT8 vista

I have the exact same problem on an Asus laptop, G2sg running Vista ultimate 32 bit. Using protools 8, there are constant errors stopping playback almost instantaneously.

However, I uninstalled PT8 and reinstalled 7.4 and everything works fine now, same hard drives, usb ports, firewire port, everything the same except PT7.4.

Have you tried an older version of protools on the computer? It's better than nothing, and hopefully digi will find something about 8 and these ASUS laptops.
