Default how many simultaneous record tracks w/ digi 001

O.K. So I'm new to the 001 thing. Can I use the adat optical in to record an extra 8 tracks of audio?
Behringer makes an a/d/a8000 that has 8 xlr's that converts to optical. Can this be used at the
same time with the 8 ins on 001 and then record 16 tracks at a time? Please forgive my virgin mind.

8 analog i/o
8 digital i/o via lightpipe
2 digital i/o voa spdif
18 total i/o.

FWIW, the Behringer unit is a total piece of junk IMHO, save your money for a real piece of equipment. I had a buddy purchase one of these units, the first one he got was DOA out of the box, the second one and third one had no workign channel 7. after much frustration returning defective units he decided to A/B compare the 7 working channels against the 001 pre/converters with me, and the 001 (which IMHO is nothing to brag about, especially the converters) totally blew the Behringer away.

If you need add'l mic pres, look inot the Digimax or Focusrite units. If all you need are line i/o, check out the Alesis AI-3.

i agree about behringers, don't buy. there are other alternatives far better than that.

if you don't need mic preamps (you have a console and record through its direct outs at line level), then i'd suggest you try alesis ai-3. that is a decent quality converter, has 8 ins and 8 outs, gets the job done, and will be somewhat on par with your 001's quality. you should be able to find one second hand also.

if you want preamps and perhaps something better than 001's, then take a look at presonus digimax lt (or the pro version digimax 96) or the focusrite octopre. recordings through digimax lt will be a little more coloured compared to recording through octopre (or digimax 96), but the digimax lt will be half the price. i have one and it's better than "decent", and for that price, i didn't hesitate too long.
