URGENT.. need PT8 to work in 15 hours.. pls help!
I recently upgraded to Leopard 10.5.6
I have bought PT8 and have just tried to install it tonight because I have to record a concert tomorrow night (which I forgot about), hence the last minute scramble. I installed Pro Tools 8... Restart.. the.. MAC OSX has quit unexpectadly.. Pro Tools shuts down!!! I Uninstalled my previous version properly and followed the installation instructions. What have I done wrong? I've noticed people talking about a Combo Updater.. I'm currently downloading the one for 10.5.6 as I write this.. maybe that will help but I'm doubting it! What's all this about Plug in Compatibilty? Could that be the reason it's not opening? The Mbox mini is attached so the hardware is there.. Man, I hate all these "extra" things that need to be done (or somehow known) to get a piece of software working. |

Combo updater is a safe bet, that's why everyone recommends it. If you really want to be sure, than I suggest to backup your system to an external drive, do a clean install of leopard, download the combo updater, and after you've installed it, install pt8.
This way, you won't have to fear from incompatible plugins, or other system things, which can screw up your pro tools performance. I have a rock solid system with leopard 10.5.8 and pro tools 8.0.1 A os update is almost always a hit or miss thing. If something ugly left over from the previous version, it can easily make bad things. Tamas Dragon

You should have done a clean un-install of your old version of pt. And yes you should take the time and make sure your plugs are up to date. That's probably the easiest place to start...
I think your too late on a combo update helping, especially since you already have that version of the OS. You could try the 10.5.8 combo update...good luck!

Re: URGENT.. need PT8 to work in 15 hours.. pls help!
i suggest that you pull you plugin's out and then see if pt will open.
if it does then you know you have incompatable plugs. this was my first problem and way of finding out what was causing it. if it opens, maybe you can record the live show and deal with the incompatability issue later. if you have'nt updated your third party plugs YOU WILL HAVE ISSUES of pt partially loading and then quitting unexpectedly. i did not need to do the combo update on a fresh hard drive and PT8. i just thought i'd let people that.
