Driver Hell: which via driver for a7v266e?
I must admit I am confused...I've ready everything I can about configuring the a7v266e in this forum, I still don't understand which via drivers to use...I understand that I shouldn't use the 4-in-1's, but should I install the IDE Bus Master Miniport Driver or the IDE Bus Master Filter Driver? I am running ME, so from the chart at viaarena.com, it looks like the miniport should be installed, but, frankly, I have tried both and my performance on the davec test (23 trax) seems basically unchanged. Both my hard drives are on the promise controllers (for which I have installed the ultra.mpd driver and the patch), so does the IDE Bus Master Driver even matter?
Here are my other specs again: ProTools LE: Ver. 5.1.1.330 CPU: XP 1800+ running at 1.54Ghz OS: Win ME 4.90.3000 RAM: 512MB CorsairDDR (2x256, slots 1 & 3) MOBO: a7v266e (BIOS ver. 1006) Video: RADEON VE 32MB DDR Promise Port A(master): 20GB 7200rpm IBM Deskstar (system)4kb clusters Promise Port B(master): 40GB 7200rpm IBM Deskstar (audio)32kb clusters Promise Driver: Ultra.mpd (version 2.00.0 Build 18) with Raid performance patch installed CDRW: Plextor on IDE channel 1 master (VIA Bus Master PCI IDE Driver version 3.01.14) Digi001: PCI 4 (can't fit in slot 3 because the white plastic audio connector is sticking out of the board), no other PCI cards IRQ 0 System timer OK IRQ 1 Standard 101/102-Key or Microsoft Natural Keyboard OK IRQ 2 Programmable interrupt controller OK IRQ 4 ACPI IRQ Holder for PCI IRQ Steering OK IRQ 4 Win9x-ME Promise Ultra100 (tm) IDE Controller (PDC20265) OK IRQ 6 Standard Floppy Disk Controller OK IRQ 8 System CMOS/real time clock OK IRQ 9 SCI IRQ used by ACPI bus OK IRQ 10 ACPI IRQ Holder for PCI IRQ Steering OK IRQ 10 Digidesign Digi 001 OK IRQ 11 ACPI IRQ Holder for PCI IRQ Steering OK IRQ 11 RADEON VE OK IRQ 12 PS/2 Compatible Mouse Port OK IRQ 13 Numeric data processor OK IRQ 14 VIA Bus Master PCI IDE Controller OK IRQ 14 Primary Bus Master IDE controller (dual fifo) OK IRQ 15 VIA Bus Master PCI IDE Controller OK IRQ 15 Secondary Bus Master IDE controller (dual fifo) OK |

Re: Driver Hell: which via driver for a7v266e?
I've already got that installed plus the patch, but what about the IDE Bus Master Driver...which one, filter or miniport or none (for ME)?
