Default Can you recommend an EQ that color nicely

I am looking to get yet more hardware and now I want more EQ’s and want something that color the sound and not as transparant as our TubeTech Units or our Calrec 3200 and a few more.

We have been looking at Tegeler and their Crιme which is a true stereo EQ and Compressor that is supposed to be awesome

Just got our new SSL Fusion and awaiting MCDSP APB16 as there are quite some cool coloring plugins with that EXPENSIVE toy but for what I want to use at home aswell as in the studio is somethingl like IGS IQ or some other cool boutique EQ.

Anyone have any good ideas here? Not transparant and either dual mono or stereo EQ. The Tegeler stuff looks great but I never tried one and the SPL I dont know as we only have the SPL Dynamaxx which might be the most under rated compressor in history for the price.

We have two WA-EQP-1 and the brown EQ’s in our SSL desk plus Neve and other cool Looptrotter gear. Bought some of their compressors (Monster-2 and Sa2rate-2) this summer but I wish they made an EQ with that super saturation Looptrotter are soo good at!

If anyone has a cool EQ for sale or recommend please let me know asap.

Budget isn’t as important but the most expensive stuff we have doesn’t always sound or fit best on some sessions. I mean our Three tube techs are killer and even the WA EQP sounds great but as looptrotter which is one of our favs doesn’t do any EQ’s we are looking like crazy for a non Pultec sounding EQ.

As always Big Thanks and hope this isn’t to stupid a question.

That (and API2500 before it) has been my wet daydream for mixbus for some time. Together those two would fit into compact 2U rack that could easily be taken on the road.

Sardi, That Hammer EQ sounds awesome! This is the one they have called Hammer-2. Is that still what you would recommend or is it the first Version of Hammer? Here is a link: http://www.adesignsaudio.com/hammer-2-eq-tube-equalizer

I do love the API gear and we have a 2500 and use it on drums only so the 5500 isn’t that big a change for what it cost here (4000 USD) but the Hammer Mmmm Nice! Thank You Sardi and Janne for your suggestions. Gonna go borrow the Hammer 2 in the morning as I saw they had one and one Nail in the store so that is gonna be great fun! You guys are the Best! Thank you again!

Yeah it’s the Hammer 2.

I actually had both. The second revision added the detented pots which I really needed for ease of recall, but they also added shelving filters on both the high and low bands. Makes it even more flexible.

Kush has a licensed emulation plugin, so you could give that a spin to get an idea of what it sounds like. I haven’t used the plugin version so can’t compare, but I own Kush hardware and plugins and his stuff is fantastic, so I’m sure the plugin sounds pretty damn close.

Best of luck.

A-Designs Hammer EQ.

Valve based, dual stereo, detented pots.

Mine is part of my mastering rig, but I chose it because I wanted a broad strokes EQ that was musical.

The hardware I chose for my analog chain isn’t the normal stuff you see in mastering. If I want precision, I use plugins as I think they excel in that department.

Check it out. I don’t think you’ll be disappointed.
