Default Best MP3 Encoder?

I know this occasionally is brought up, but each time it yields different opinions so let's do it again...

For sound quality, what do you think is the best MP3 encoder (Mac)?

How does the Pro Tools encoder stand up the others?

I've been using SoundJam lately and I like it better than the PT export option. I heard good things about Music Match and downloaded it but haven't used it to encode yet.

SoundJam Rocks! Not only is it a great converter, it's got many other cool features. I have my Mac wired into my stereo and use SJ to play my MP3's as well as streaming internet radio stations.

I think AudioCatalyst sound better than sound jam but you need to transfer for SDII to AIFF first, I tried soundjam but got a bit sound different from original,.. anyway it's just my opinion. try it with you ears.

I use Audio Catalyst too. Additionally, it has a good ripper that dials up a CD data base to fetch titles. Don't remember if Sound Jam does that.
But it's only mp3....

Use the original Frunhofer encoder. It surpasses the typical MP3 encoders. I believe that the Music Match encoder utilizes it and it's also available as a QuickTime component. It sounds worlds better then the Pro Tools MP3 export.
