Default DVD Burners

Hello

Newegg is having a sale on DVD Burners and I was just wondering if the prices they are charging right now are considered inexpensive. If so I might pick one up.Thanks.

Thanx

That actually gives me a better base of information. Now I'm confused at what kind I should get.Internal or external.I don't have USB 2.0 or a firewire card yet.I was thinking to go USB 2.0 and maybe go for the more expensive external.Wait a minute. Maybe I should concentrate on getting an external hard drive and go for the internal DVD burner??Damn these decisions are annoying at times.

One question if someone could please answer. What DVD burners are considered reliable.NEC and Pioneer? Thanks for any info.

6969,
I'm glad you posted this, because I'm about to get one too. I'm thinking of going with an external burner because we have Premier on 2 separate pc's here. The site below is good for any questions you may have about DVD.

Thanx ROY

I'll do some studying on this matter.I seem to be leaning towards the Internal DVD burner which looks less expensive and then do the External Hard Drive via USB 2.0. It seems like USB has come of age.Unless there is some reason that FIREWIRE would be a much better choice.Any other input would be appreciated.

Keith's got the important issue at hand.

Make sure what ever burner you get can write -R and +R DVD's you definately want to be compatabe with everyone using this technology for Archiving data.

You can call the studio you're going to be bringing a session on DVD into, If they say - only, or + only, you can burn your session accordingly.

They haven't really standardized all of this yet, so there is a bit of a compatabillity issue, don't get caught in it, Keith's buy, sounds like the winning score.

It shouldnt matter which format you get as long as you get the proper blank media for your burner, +R is little more expensive. After the DVD is burned it should play on pretty much any DVD burner/Rom of recent vintage. I bought a Verbatum last Sept. ($119) for my home machine to copy old VHS tapes to, it had an NEC 4x +R in the box. So far they all play on all my players/computers with no problem. Bought a K-Hypermedia 8x +R from OfficeMax last week ($139 with $20 instant rebate and $50 mail in rebate = $69) for my ProTools machine as a back up solution. Both came with Nero software. YMMV

PS This burner is still available for $69 .

I decided on an external DVD burner because it's best for my situation. I got a Pioneer DVR-s606 from BestBuy last week...spent a little more and got a 3 year warranty, but I'm glad I did.

6969,
Did you find one yet?

Hey Roy

I lost track of this for the moment but I did go to Price Watch to get an idea of what I'm supposed to be looking at.They had so many.I guess I'll go with what dudes here on the DUC are going with.Pioneer looks like the one to highly consider.I think I will go internal with the DVD burner and external with a hard drive.Just out of curiosity, what are the specs on that Pioneer burner you picked up and how much did it put you out? Thanks Roy.
