Tascam US-2400 3xHUI Controller w/ Joystick Panner

Hey All,

Has anyone had a chance to play with this yet?

Tascam US-2400

I'm interested in this for pre-dubbing and small 5.1 mixes in ProTools. It seems pretty interesting. 3x HUI control by USB (no MIDI = no MIDI crashes), Joystick panner, Transport, Jog/Shuttle. Price is good too .... $1599 for 25 faders.

Negatives really seem to be no scribble strips, or 3rd party plugin control (maybe...it says eq, but nothing else).

Would love to hear any success/horror stories.

One big negative is rumour has it that HUI support is being dropped from Pro Tools.

With PT 6.4, the HUI Profile is found in the "Obsolete Hardware" folder.

I'd want to be pretty darn sure that support would continue before making a purchase like that.

That's an awful big rumor, considering the number of controllers that use that protocol, care to quote a source?

The HUI was unsupported for the Pro Tools 6.4 release only because we had our hands full with the initial releases of D-Control and Command|8, so we did not have the bandwidth to test the HUI or Motormix. We expect qualification of HUI and Motormix to return in the next major release of Pro Tools.

I am really bummed out that Digi seem to "force" their customers to move to their technology. I am shelling out for an HD1 system because they killed Mix - now they have brought out Control8, oops, they don't qualify HUI. Does this smack of anti-trust?

I would like confirmation that all that happened was they didn't test, not that it will not work. Digi please confirm........

I second that request Ian ...

I believe we are migrating to Panther soon (as a company), and I should imagine that we will go straight to 6.4 release. Using that scenario, we have a few rooms here (probably more at other facilities) outfitted with HUIs, and it is a little disconcerting that they might not work until the "next major release." Major releases don't happen very often. A "CS" or "R" release would be a more pleasant pill to swallow.

Danny, you are always a straight-up guy on the DUC. It would just be nice to know that the support doesn't go completely away with 6.4. And while you're at it ... Any joystick panner options you would recommend (knowing that I cannot go to ProControl)?

Bump...

Has anyone used the Tascam US-2400 with protools? I need to buy a control surface soon, and I would like to use the joystick panner, and scroll wheel. Also... 24 faders, plus a master fader. This looks like a great control surface.

I can't find any reviews on the internet. I wonder if anybody has used one yet.
