Default Problem: 5.1 to 5.0 Free Conversion

In a nutshell:

I can't convert 5.1 LE sessions to 5.0 without copying ALL the audio media along with it! My 5.1 session references very large AIFF files that take forever to convert to SD2 for PT5 Free compatibility.

Is there anyway to save the 5.1 session as 5.0 without copying the audio files as well? I just want the session saved as 5.0, but I don't want to copy all of the audio files!

My understanding is that ProTools 5.0 can handle AIFF files, yet the Save Session Copy... option in ProTools 5.1 forces me to copy all of the audio files while I do the conversion. The checkbox "Don't Copy Audio Files" is grayed out when I select 5.0 session.

Any ideas? Thanks in advance.
