Yes it would be surely useful, perhaps as an AudioSuite plugin and in 2023 there ought to be something built in.
Amadeus Pro a macOS audio editor has a 'Waveform Statistics' item in the Analyse menu see screenshots:

With Audiosuite Gain you can measure Peak and RMS
With Pro Limiter you can read Lufs, True Peak, etc. I always have both hanging on my Mastering Sessions.
