Deleting unused, lost files, Bug or Me?
Here's the scenario..
Tracked a song...finished and moved on to a new one... Created a new session and imported session data from previous song... Did not import regions and media.. did not import alt plalists... Link to source media was ON... All the tracks from the previous session came in blank with no alt playlists... I can't say 100 percent if the regions bin was empty... Tracked the new song.. the artist said "can you get rid of all the takes except the current one..." I selected unused and then deleted selected... Went back to the previous song and all the audio was gone!!! I checked in the regions bin by displaying full pathnames and they were supposed to be right there in the audio files folder but the audio files folder was empty! Did I screw up by having link to source media? Is it possible it was a buggy thing? PTHD 6.4 I think or 6.1 (friends place)..OSX.2 Thanks, Pete |

Re: Deleting unused, lost files, Bug or Me?
When prompted after selecting 'Clear Unused', did you choose to 'clear' or 'delete' the files?
If you chose to 'delete' the files, that could explain what seems to be happening, since deleting the files deletes them from the drive. In this case they would have been the original files, since you did not copy them into the new session. |

Re: Deleting unused, lost files, Bug or Me?
Thanks for the reply...
If i have Link To Source Media selected but I don't import regions or media, would it delete audio from the source session? Doen't seem like it would but I think it did, or do I have something confused? |

Re: Deleting unused, lost files, Bug or Me?
Yes, if it's set to link to source media, then it will delete the source media, as those are the files you're actually working with.
If I create Session 'A', record some audio, the save the session and create Session 'B' and import data from Session 'A', telling it to reference the Session 'A' media, rather than copy it, then Session 'B' is using the Session 'A' media and anything done to that media will have an effect on Session 'A', as both sessions reference the same media. |

Re: Deleting unused, lost files, Bug or Me?
Right, I understand this.
I didn't actually import any regions or media. I'm not in front of PT right now but I'm familiar with the Import Session Data dialogue box. You know on the bottom where you choose what elements to import from the selected tracks? Regions and Media and Alt Playlists was deselected. You know on the left above where you select what tracks to import? I had link to source media selected. Know what I mean? Guess I'll go out and try an experiment. Thanks, Pete |
