Default Question for those that have used HDX and HD/Native

Trying to plan for the next level and am wondering if HDX is a much better choice for tracking than HD/Native. Either way, it would likely be used 192 IO's to start, but is the lower latency worth the extra $$$ When answering this, keep in mind that I like to track with some plugins(my habit sticks to plugins with no latency) and plenty of AUX sends for custom headphone mixes(which I do now with HD software and my 003, plus outboard preamps). Toss some opinions folks

So far on 11, many of the plugins have less latency, most have been right around 0 unless you get into the lookahead dynamics and such. Plus going to a PCI based (Or TB) the latency just feels less than my previous FireWire based systems. This, coupled with the dual buffer design of the new AAX and the better handling of the CPU and processing and has made tracking on the HDN a pleasure and more viable for than it was previously. I have no regrets going this path whatsoever.

Interesting, and thanks for the info. What I am really looking to know is if the mixing DSP makes life better(for real) or if I really don't need to spend the extra cash.

For me, HDX and the gain associated the mixer off loaded to DSP, over Native was worth the cost I paid for the HDX card less what I sold my native card.

Aha! As for a fever, GUESS WHAT? I GOTTA have more cowbell..........

So, MADIrouting went from HD/Native to HDX? That's the kind of direct comparison I am looking for(but I was hoping you were gonna say it wasn't such a big deal). Still weighing the 2 so keep the opinions coming, and keep in mind, I hope to run whichever on my current rig(specs below, and I can modify the case to accommodate the HDX card. Are there any issues with a UAD Quad card in either case(HDN or HDX)?

I have an OCTO card and I have not come across anything... They play well together in PT10..

The session that drove the change was a mix of 24 tracks (24/88.2) with aux, vca's, and side chains.....it was taxing my Native system around 70-85% CPU @2048 buffers (this was after I OC'd the CPU to 4.0 GHz to get it down from approx 85-95%; plus the delay comp issues with side chains).

With HDX, and the CPU still OC'd, that session now runs around 28% and tighter, 512 buffers. PT10.

Most of those plugins have not made the jump to AAX, so PT11 comparison is pending.

I have both, I find myself much more comfortable with HDX in general, but I could do almost all the work I do with HDN. HEAT is important to me though and sadly with HDN, there is no HEAT.

Good info all around and thanks, I am sure I COULD work with HDN(I'm working HD software with my 003 right now), BUT, if HDX really is worth the extra dough(DOH!), I would rather make 1 move instead of 2(if the wallet can handle it)
