Default 11R expansion pack firmware not updating Win7 64

Hello to all,

Sorry to bring this up again, but I just can't seem to get this to work.

Bought a 2nd hand 11R and pro tools 8 le. installed pro tools and updated to 8.0.5, bought expansion pack, tried to install, firmware update keeps failing.

have been through several uninstal and re-instals of pro tools to no avail.

have uninstalled ie9 and ie 8, so no ie at all, no joy.

Can connect with the 11R in pro tools and see amps and can even see the new amps and cabs but not the effects that should be there from the expansion pac, although the new ones don't work.

11R current firmware 1.0.2
have current 1.0.11 drivers.

have a slight and growing urge to take a hammer to the 11R, but resisting at present.
Have contacted avid supprot, without a reply so far.

Is there anything that any of you good people can suggest.

Can I load the firmware updater on to a usb stick and transfer to another PC and try running it?

Sandra details, hopefully the useful ones??

Well I'll be damned,

I have 8 usb slots and I thought what the heck it's midnight and I am fed up with this....

and yes you got it, port 7 of 8 finds new hardware and installs a different looking set of drivers and the update worked.

So I now have an up to date 11R with expansion pack and am feeling much better about everything.

I am not sure of the technical reasons for this, perhaps some one else can shed some light, especially if it is of use to any others who might be having the same problem.

A couple things to try.

Install IE8, no need to uninstall every trace of IE, its just IE9 that causes a problem. By the way you can re-install IE9 AFTER you get the 11R updated.

Try installing the older driver for the 11R and Windows (1.0.8) then try the update again. Uninstall the old driver first, and be sure to restart before trying to update the 11R.

Make sure you are connected to the internet.

Make sure Pro Tools is CLOSED.

Try another USB port for the 11R.

Try another USB cable.

Unplug all other USB devices.

You CAN update your 11R from any computer, the problem you will run into now is that if you have already typed in your S/N and ID code into the updater, it is now locked to that PC and if you try updating from another PC you will get an error saying the numbers have already been used - even though your 11R has not been updated.

Of course if you just can't get the current PC to work, you can call Avid and tell them of your trouble and they may issue you a new code.

Only a problem if you need to run the updater again for some reason, but there aren't any known issues with Pro Tools (or the Eleven Rack driver), just the updater app. Thanks.

I wouldn't call it a problem if IE9 was re-installed and for some strange reason the ERXP needed to be run again, its easy to uninstall IE9 at anytime.

Also the reason I mentioned trying the older driver for windows (1.0.8) is that there is a problem with the 1.0.11 driver and installing firmware 1.0.3 - so as a troubleshooting tip I thought I would mention it to him just in case, you can always switch back to the newer driver with ease.

There is also a problem with some rigs not loading from computer when using driver 1.0.11 which I have documented.

Glad to see someone from Avid on the board again, don't be a stranger
