Default removeable scsi drives and PTIII?

hi all-

we have a PTIII system and we want to hook up some form of removeable scsi. it does NOT need to be RAID of any form, or hot-swappable. wondering what people who have learned the hard way are recommending: what the current standard is, both for the sake of proven reliability and compatibility with other studios.

anyone been there?

thanks
