I'm not too far behind, sometime last year, but was wondering how this new version (2020.11) is treating my fellow Windows 10 users? I'm trying to determine if this version is really good, or if people have grown very tired of bitching about it and stopped posting.
I've even read of system processing & stability improvements. They seemed to be Mac use4rs, though, so don't know if it's the same for Windows. My current install is somewhat stable, which is tons better than it was for several years not too long ago. I'm still hesitate to update my system due to many lessons finally learned. BUT, that said, the track folders thing has been nagging at me to try out. |

Just my 2 cents:
2020.11 has been running fine here. I have had zero crashes. Sometimes, certain plugins take a bit to open(Ozone 9 and Melodyne), but that's actually par for the course with those 2. Regarding worrying about updating, caution is a good thing. But, its easy to have a backup plan. If you have a desktop PC, I would get SATA drive cage(at least a single slot model) and buy a second hard drive(preferably an SSD) of the same capacity, and clone your current system drive. Then, install the cloned drive and update that one. Start by uninstalling Pro Tools(and the HD driver if that option appears) and then install the latest version. At the very least, use some drive imaging software and save an image of your system drive to any external drive(I keep a 6TB USB3 drive for backups and drive images, in addition to the 2 SSD's I rotate for each update) FWIW, re using the Run as Admin command for installing and running PT, I stopped doing that a year ago and things have been running fine ever since. Also, if you haven't trashed Prefs lately, I would open Prefs and take notes on your settings(unless you have them memorized like me ![]() Last thing: 2020.11 will default to DARK mode. Try that and see if you like it. As for me, so far, I am not a fan but its easy to open Prefs to the first tab and select Classic mode, then restart(Classic mode looks like you are used to seeing everything) ![]()

No issues here. I'm not a huge fan of the dark mode, but hope that it is a starting point for providing multiple options for skinning PT.
As a plus the Avid Link app is keeping me logged in. It had always logged me out every time I rebooted previously. I know a lot of folk disable it.. Joel

2020.5 is treating me well. Folder tracks work, but it's not a workflow breakthrough for me. Get CCleaner free version. After you uninstall old PT, run CCleaner's reg cleaner. Then, install the new PT.

PT 2020.11 native running well on Windows 10 version 2004 even though it's not supported.

2020.11 working very well. I think some credit need to be given to Apple, as Catalina seems to be working better than Mojave and High Sierra, as snappy as Sierra before they started to mess up with the frameworks.

Thanks for the insights, folks.
Nothing sounds too surprising, then, except perhaps not installing as admin. CCleaner ought to be interesting. I've not run it for over a year. ![]() |
