Bounce to QT in 8 stops working!!!

Having a strange thing happen. I am bouncing parts of a long-form sequence with video to a quicktime. All was well for the first 3 or 4 then I get a low on memory error and it stops working. I actually switched to a different work station and the same thing happens, works for about 4-5 bounces and then a memory low error followed by a 7 (-108) error!
Trashing prefs and databases doesnt seem to do anything either.
Anybody??

PT 8LE
MBP 2.33/MBP 2.6 (both running 10.5.6)
External FW400 drive
