That wasn't nice. I too want a dark mode in Pro Tools, I too think it is very possible that we will see it in the near future and I'd be silly if I'd believe it would be introduced as a replacement instead of as an option. I can't understand the freak out at all.

Same here. Just make it an option in PT.

What would help me understand this could someone post side-by-side shots of dark and regular mode?

Options would be nice for sure. I wouldn't mind if the default wouldn't be my choice. And as for the people who beg for dark mode, I disagree, I'd take the PT7 era bright mixer any day if it was an option

"Dark mode" is one of the main reasons I updated and it's the biggest JOKE I've ever experienced in the world of computers. It's just the freaking window. The *content* remains the same. Mail, Safari, etc. It's even worse than normal mode, because it makes some fraction of the screen black while the rest remains white.

Or am I doing it wrong?

I prefer to just make the white balance warm and have the screen brightness below 50%.

PT is already shades of grey, so I see no need to mess with it.

you are doing it right. Dark modes, like the dark themes of the phones only affect the OS but not the applications. Each developer is responsible for creating its own dark mode, and since this is a new thing, for making it automatically follow the overall state of the OS

What did you expect? That content would have been reformatted on-the-fly in every mail message and web page? That doesn't make any sense. Can you imagine every page you visit being "dark"? THAT would have been a big joke. Dark mode affects the window manager, not web "content".

Each to their own.
To my opinion, when working in post, lots of screening with clients while hands or eyes on PT, the white bg of the edit window is very annoying. Even when screen is dimmed.
For me, it's not a matter of taste in the design of the GUI. It is much needed for my work ergonomics.

I'd like to see a 'Dark & Depressed' mode so if I arrive to the studio in a happy state, I can set to chill mode.

Jokes aside, if it's an option everyone is happy!

This is Reasons dark theme, which is a user option in preferences.

Who knows how they work over there.
I think, given how Avid chooses to develop and publish, that your reasoning is very valid so it's not a question whether being right or wrong. Resources for the different dev tasks will always affect each other and adding features and squashing bugs usually entails solving difficult problems that can be hard to estimate time-wise. It's just not something the user should be worrying about, they should focus on creating great stuff with the tools they chose to invest in

I'm also pretty sure that the people developing PT wouldn't want any other way.
