Default Warning: DD client is not supported on OS X 10.7 Lion

DigiDelivery Customers,

Chris Markle here from Aspera. As I hope most of you know by now, Aspera has announced that we will no longer support the DigiDelivery product after December 2011.

Yesterday, Apple released OS X 10.7 Lion. This version of OS X no longer includes the OS X "Rosetta" technology that allowed PPC (Power PC) apps to run on Intel-based Macs (and Lion only runs on Intel-based Macs). It was this Rosetta technology that allowed legacy apps like the DigiDelivery client (itself a PPC app) to run on Intel-based machines. Since Rosetta is not even available as an option for Lion users (it was still an option on OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard), the DD client will NOT run on Lion systems. If you need to continue to use the DD client, you will have to have at least one 10.6 Snow Leopard or earlier system to do that.

Aspera has no plans to make the DD client a formally supported product on Intel-based Macs. Some time ago an alpha version of the DD client for Intel-based Macs was tested but it was not determined to be a viable replacement candidate for the Mac DD client and it was not released.

Aspera does have a successor product to the DigiDelivery system called Faspex (http://asperasoft.com/en/products/se...aspex_server_6). The user interface to Faspex is a web browser-based plug-in that is supported on 10.7 Lion, and will be supported as the OS X platform evolves. We strongly recommend that DigiDelivery customers transition to this newer, faster, more secure, and fully-supported software offering.

Again, if you intend to transition to OX X 10.7 Lion _and_ continue to use the DD client, you will need to keep at least one system at 10.6 or earlier to run the client on.

Chris
