Crackling ouput/no sound coming out of Mbox

Just a week ago, I could play my session and monitor the sound thru the headphones jack on the Mbox. Now -- after no changes I'm aware of -- I only get a faint crackle. Not hiss like there's no signal, but actual crackle, little blips and unpleasant noises. I can see the waveform, see the levels... but no sound coming out.

Have looked through FAQs and discussion boards, have changed I/O back and forth several times (including reset to default), have tried new sessions, have rebooted... please please don't tell me something has short-circuited in the Mbox... I can monitor a good signal coming in (though can't seem to record w/any audio information... is this a related problem?) This was working just a week ago and I don't know what happened.

Ahh! Any help greatly appreciated.

Try this:

Before opening Pro Tools, unplug the Mbox and plug it back in.

For some reason, the Mbox messes up and you have to do that AFTER the reboot.

Let me know if it works.

bingo! that did it. typical, I'll stay up all night looking through forums, trying angles on things, and all I need to do is a disconnect, reconnect. Reminds me of my friend's grandfather, who says of things broken and not working, "Put it in the closet for a week and try it again..."
