The best way to drive PT from a laptop is to drive it from a laptop.
I saw Ipad. It is not an app but looked like piece of hardware :)

I use Neyrinck's V-Control Pro on my iPad.

Wonderful on those occasions when I need to be in the live room with the musician(s) and don't want to keep going back and forth to/from the control room to set Pro Tools recording.

It can do a lot more, but I mainly use it to start/stop recording/playback, adjust fader levels, watch meter levels etc.

It will even let you display one other window (from outside pro tools) from your computer. I often use it to display a txt file with the song lyrics on it, useful for discussing phrasing etc.

I can do all that from the iPad via wi-fi.

Check out V-Control Pro, it really is quite good.

Cheers,

Nigel

I'm also using V-Control Pro. Works very well. You can save and undo from the iPad, as well as all the stuff you'd think it would do. Setup is straightforward and the developer is very responsive.

It also gives you the option to have a second window which, in my case, I use to control my ULN-8, so if I need to change a mic pre gain or something, I pop open the window, make the adjustment, and I don't have to leave my seat. I'm engineering myself, so it makes life easier and saves a lot of steps.

V Control Pro

Hands down the best Protools / IPAD App that exists

You will wonder how you lived without it.

Another vote for V Control. I'm the only sound designer at a small game dev company and I use it all the time for recording foley and sfx. Well worth the $$.
