Default 003 Best Options For Replacement.

Do any of you have suggestions on replacing options for the 003 on a Windows 7 64 Bit based system?

Thanks

I got rid of my 003 desk and exchanged it for an Apogee ensemble, a Mackie MCU Pro control surface and a PreSonus monitor station. I have never been happier. Latency on the Ensemble is a little worse at 96khz than the 003 but I record at 24/44.1 anyway. Sound quality on the Apogee unit is better to anyones ears than the 003 I think. It isn't the sort of subtle thing that only audiophiles notice.... for me it was literally like taking a blanket off of my sessions.

The Ensemble looks quite nice, but IIRC, it won't work on any Windows system What about the Focusrite Saffire 56 with a control surface? If all you really need is a fader and transport buttons(works for me), then the AplhaTrack and FaderPort are a possibility. Personally, I will run my 003 until I can afford HD/Native, or until I change DAW's entirely.............

Great Thread, right up my alley. The ensemble sounds great, however it doesnt support PC platforms. If nothing comes by at NAMM, Im thinking of an RME interface, along wiith the artist series, or SSL Matrix of course (hee heeeee)

This thread is up my alley too... and I'm thinking FLS56. But the thing is, I'll be upgrading once PT11 comes down the pipe, which will be in a year or so, if that. Who knows what new interfaces will be around by then.....

The new RME Fireface UC would be a good alternative for PC i heard.

Or fireface UFX if you want more Ins and outs.

Dont know how it compares to the Ensemble though.

FLS56, do you mean Focusrite Liquid? I thought that this was just a controller for the Liquid plugs.....

I have an Mbox 2 so I am in the same boat as well. I talked to a rep yesterday who recommended the ensemble or the RME UFX. But I dont really need a ton of inputs. I am looking at an Mbox 3 pro. But I must admit I am SERIOUSLY considering picking up a used HD2 system. Sure it will soon be obselete, but will you still be able to make quality records with it for the next 5 years? of course. You will be able to sell it. If you want one of the newer interface, you can add to it. You can even use it with Logic or Cubase/Nuendo. Just a thought.

i'm currently using the Focusrite Saffire 56 with great results... with the two ADAT inputs and SPDIF i've got 24 mic pres at my disposal... the mix control software is a little aggravating at times, but once you have it set right, it's fine. caveat: i'm still on PT9, still trying to figure out if it's worth it for me to upgrade right now.

The RME800 looks awesome, but it's also alot more expensive.
