Is 003 Factory acceptable for Audio Post?
Hi there,
I'm just getting back in to Sound Post Production for film and video and just wanted to know if the Digi 003 Factory is something that would work for this application. I was looking at this system vs the Projectmix I/O. I want something that is capable in mixing a 5.1 Audio track. Is it possible with this gear. Thanks |

Project Mix is probably capable of these things, but NOT with Pro Tools.

I was under the impression that ProTools was the industry standard for this type of operation. It's not suited to Audio Post for Film?

Project Mix will only work with Pro Tools M-Powered which does not support the Complete Production Toolkit or 5.1 surround sound. It may suit those needs with another DAW, however.

Ahh, I understand now lol. Projectmix can only operate with M-powered version then? It's not something that can be updated? Do you have any other recomendations? Sorry, I've been out of the loop for quite some time

PTLE can be upgraded with the Music Production Toolkit, the DV Toolkit (which is more geared for film, with TC, Digitranslator and a few other niceties, but no 5.1) and the Complete Production Toolkit, which is what I believe would be suited for your needs.

Re: Is 003 Factory acceptable for Audio Post?
If you plan to do anything with 5.1, you will need the Complete Production Toolkit (the DV Toolkit does not do any surround). By itself it's $2000, but they make a bundle called 003 Factory Complete, which combines everything and saves you some money.

You might also think about how you are getting video into and out of Pro Tools and video monitoring and layback - you might consider something like an Avid Mojo for this... not sure what your workflow entails...

Everything will be Shot on a Sony EX3 and edited on a Mac using Final Cut. Audio will be done on a PC. Im concerned about Time Code. Ive always used external SMPTE generators
