Default Odd Question: Is D-Fi free now? Or discontinued?

So was just searching for the D-Fi plugin today, too see how much it costs lately and was astonished to see it come up on Digidesign's site saying "Free."
Huh? I got all excited... but then saw this:
All plug-ins below listed as plug-in version 7.4.x or lower require an iLok license.
All plug-ins below listed as plug-in version 8.x or higher do not require an iLok license.
So wait...
What happens if i want D-Fi, but am running a version before 7.4.x?
(LE 6.4 in fact)
Is it possible to get it? Or am i just out of luck?

the 8 version can be loaded onto 7.4 with the help of an extra installer app
I don't know about 6.x
try it, worst is it won't work and you'll need to pull them from the active plugs folder

worst case scenario:
Older versions of D-Fi can be had on eBay for 10 bucks plus the iLok transfer.

On the same page you quoted above, it also says this:
Quote:
Downloads below listed as "for Pro Tools 7.3.1-8.0" can also be used with Pro Tools HD, LE, and M-Powered v7.3.1, 7.4, and 7.4.2 systems, and require no iLok authorization to use.

Please Note: Although you may be able to use these version 8 plug-ins on Pro Tools 7.0 through 7.3.0 systems, they have only been tested and qualified by Digidesign with Pro Tools 7.3.1 and higher.

Yeah, i read that too.
But you'll notice that's not really helpful to me running 6.4

To Craig F:
That sounds at least promising...
What kind of Installer app do you mean?

the installers can be found here: http://www.dontcrack.com/freeware/au...ds/Digidesign/

you need to tun the 7.x installer then the 8.x installer on top after a reboot
