Default "Unable to locate M-AUDIO Hardware" - Fast Track, PT8.0.5, Win 7

I saw several similar posts, but nothing I read has gotten me closer to a solution on this one.

I have owned PT8 for some time and used it with my M-Audio Fast Track on my iMac with no issues. I recently obtained an Acer Aspire S3 with Win7 and figured it would be a great portable system.

- I installed PT8.0.0 and got the "Unable to locate M-AUDIO Hardware" message.

- I did some research, uninstalled, re installed, installed 8.0.5 update as well as latest driver for Fast Track (6.1.12). Same issue. I also tried backsteping to the second oldest driver (6.0.6) and no fix.

- After each install / uninstall I did a system restart.

- The computer is clean as it is a fresh hard drive and install of Win7.

- The Fast Track is plugged directly into a powered USB port, and it powers on without fail. The laptop also recognizes it by name when it is connected.

- Where should the Fast Track drivers show up? I am wondering if they are installed in the computer, but not in the Digidesign drivers folder. I guess I need to know what I should be looking for and in what location.

- I'm not at home and just thought of this - could the antivirus software cause an issue? I'll try turning it off tonight and see if that makes a difference. Is there anything else in Win7 security that may be blocking PT 8.0.5 from recognizing the Fast Track interface?

Thanks for any help, and let me know if you need any additional information.

Jim

Does the FTP show up in Device Manager, and show that it is working correctly and the drivers installed? when you open the FTP control panel, does it see the FTP is connected?

When you start Pro Tools, try holding down "n" when the splash screen shows and selecting the FTP as your audio engine.

Joel, he is running 8.0.5 LE, so no playback engine selection needed.

Possibly a good point, OP doesn't specify what version of PT8 he's running - but hopefully a M-Powered version (not LE). :) It's been a while since I've run an M-Powered version.

Right, my bad, not sure why I read LE, and it's in the MP forum.

Chalk this one up to my inexperience with Win7... and the fact that I could have known my equipment a little bit better...

Thanks, Joel, for directing me to the device manager. I found the driver... for the M-Audio Fast Track. I, however, have the Fast Track Pro. (Forehead smack!) I've been downloading the wrong driver. I didn't know to look for it in the device manager and would have kept up this endless cycle and never gotten anywhere. I did download the drivers for the Fast Track Pro and, oddly enough... it worked! Apparently I'm also ready for the Fast Track if I choose to buy one...

I am now running 8.0.5 M-Powered on Win7 with the M-Audio Fast Track Pro with success!!

My next test is to see if USB 2.0 will be fast enough for an external drive as those are the only ports and the internal is only 128GB solid state. (Sad that when I first started with PT LE I was excited to get a $600 400MB external SCSI. Gone are the days...)

Thanks for your suggestions and direction.
