Using 34" video monitor in Pro Tools
Hello to all... am upgrading to HDX PT 12... would like to use a 34" wide screen monitor for my work... Have 2010 era 5,1 12 core "Westmere" 2.93ghz Mac Pro with Radeon 4780 card... (not the 5770 which is next gen)
Can I run a 34" monitor with this card? Are any PT users using 34" monitors for Pro Tools, if so what card are you using and are you getting resolutions to match? Thanks so much for your help! |

Dual-Link capable
Check that card-spec. Switch res may also be useful https://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/8355/switchresx

Re: Using 34" video monitor in Pro Tools
Awesome tip on the utility... thank you!
The 4870 is indeed 2x DVI-I dual link capable... Max res 2560 x 1600 (DVI), 2040 x 1536 (VGA) What other specs should I check? Dell, LG, Samsung, et.al. 34" monitor Max resolution (optimal) is 3440 x 1440, 21:9 aspect ratio... it will run at other resolutions but I don't know if the 4870 is new enough to drive this monitor What other specs on the monitor do I do I need to check? Thank You for your response! |

Re: Using 34" video monitor in Pro Tools
We´ve been using a Dell Ultra Sharp 34 in one of our rooms with good results for a few months now.
Using a 2009 Mac Pro w/ NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680 getting 3440 x 1440 @ 60 Hz Even works with a second screen hooked up (an old Apple Cinema Display 20" I think)

Yea you'll need another card to go big. Not a problem if you run later os.

Re: Using 34" video monitor in Pro Tools
Which model do you have... does it take up one or two PCIe slots? Does it have 2GB or 4GB of memory?
