Turn off the groups.

If you suspend groups (ctrl+shift+g) then any time you return to the session (after saving) you'll have to suspend groups again. This state does not save with the session.

If you turn off the group(s) (un-highlight the groups with your mouse in the group window area -- lower left-hand area below track listings in either edit or mix windows) then the groups stay off even when coming back to the session.

Alternatively, if you want to retain the groups and just make small adjustments to one fader, hold down control while you move the fader. That will change but the group will still be active.

If you have a right click mouse, just right click on the fader in question. The same also goes for the mute.
