Who's going to quibble over a gig or two? The question was/is - is that the file size on your drive?

Thanks for the clarification. The reason behind my questioning is that developers that do stuff for UVI are found of stating a huge sample library when in reality the file size is only a few gig at best because of the compression scheme in use. For example the Baldwin has 22 gig of uncompressed audio recorded but the file size on my ssd is under 4 gig. All 88 keys recorded at 8 velocity levels at 24/88.2

Sure.

Not the case of D but Ivory Bösendorfer has all 97 keys sampled in 20 layers una corda and release samples in multiple velocities too

No wonder the sample library is huge. 50 gigs for one piano and that is one set of mics, no fancy choose your mic and placement kind if nonsense.

Jordan Rudess uses Ivory, it says it all.

Thanks for confirming this. I suspected as much. When I load a library in Kontakt, I don’t think it’s doing any searching. My installation of everything is clean and my system is only about a month and a half old. I updated everything and started from scratch. Also when you get that batch resave message, it said something about the fact that you can only use these libraries now with the newest version of Kontakt. That kind of threw me because just in case I need to load something in Kontakt 5, I wanted to preserve that option. For me everything’s cool now that I know that ProTools actually isn’t crashing on start up of a VI heavy session and I just have to wait for a minute before I hit play.

Using the memory manager with Kontakt definitely helps. I can hit the play button while samples are loading without much worry about PT crashing now. And it gives me the extra bonus of being able to actually see when the samples are done loading and how much memory they're taking up at a glance.
