Default application launch failure

I am transfering over from my G4 to a new G5 and having some problems. I ended up using an external drive to transfer protools and some other software. I must be missing something, because when I try to launch PT on the G5, it says "the application Protools 6.9.3 could not be launched because of a shared library error. *-<Protools PPC dbg><Protools PPC dbg><DAE><>*
any help please? Am I missing some content to transfer?

There is only one way to install protools - that is from a protools installer (either CDrom or web dmg file).

DO this:

1. using your PT installer, run it, but select "uninstall protools" -- before you do that, make sure you have a full backup of your plugins folder.
2. re-install protools on your new machine (best from CDrom). replace plugins. do not launch pt yet.
3. Run latest cs updates
4. launch PT, provide serial number when asked, etc...

This is the only way to guarantee functionality.

This will take you 10 minutes. Go do it.

i think what he is saying is to actually install from the CD or the installer that you download form the site. this puts all the files in the right places. so, rather than dragging over from HD, install onto the G5 from the CD or downloaded installer.

does that make sense?

(be sure to repair permissions and restart)

do it!

OK... I have installed 6.0. Thank you by the way for helping me out! I have a tech that I usually hire for larger chores, but I wanted to do this one on my own. Now I must repair permissions? Can you tell me how to do this? I went to get info, and I see permissions, But I can't seem to make it repair.

Applications -> Utilities -> Disk Utility

launch this - then "repair disk permissions"

It's a good practice to do this after installing new software.

and yes, uninstall protools from your NEW machine... then re-install from scratch. there are too many files and under the hood extensions that unless you are an EXPERT'S EXPERT, it's unlikely that most of us on the DUC could figure out what had to move - not to mention permission issues, etc...

so re-install from scratch, but be sure to use the PT installer to REMOVE all traces of PT from the new machine before you try to install. hope this helps.

I am still unsure about what to do next- Now that I have 6.0, how can I get up to current? I am looking on the site at the downloads, but they all repuire newer versions to start out with. How do I catch up?

That would be a paid upgrade. What hardware are you running? You may as well go right to 7.0 - and buy the plus pack and get 2 plugs included.

right.

and a good way to do this is to:

1 run disk warrior in the sys drive (launch from DW CD),
2 repair disk permissions,
3 install the new OS,
4 repair disk permissions. (some people restart here).
5 then install the upgrades to PT.
6 repair disk permissions. (maybe restart here again -- i do)
