Great idea?

I think an effects device that had an ADAT lightpipe connection would be super. It could have 8 separate channels for 8 different effects.
Imagine the power that would be left for the CPU.

OR...

Does there exist a device to convert an ADAT light pipe cable into 8 separate digial outputs?

I think a Motu 2408 can act as a converter, even if not connected to a computer. The original (not MkII) should have 24-bit throughput too, only the a/d converters were 16-bit. The orignal 2408's can be found in the $350 range if you look hard enough.

Another item worth mentioning is the Alesis AI-3, allows for 8 channels of a/d and d/a conversion, all 24-bit, balanced 1/4" analog jacks, pretty good i/o for the buck.
