Default Pro Tools Essentials won't run

I'm trying to run this software obtained with an M-Audio KeyStudio 49. At first it wouldn't load the plug-ins. I found a knowledge-base article that told me to edit the registry to allow cookies. I did that and now it says "Unable to locate any M-Audio hardware". My keystudio is plugged in and turned on. What next?

Thanks,
Dick

Yes, I have IE8 installed, although I don't use it, preferring Mozilla. Why?

I woke up in the middle of the night and thought, maybe you have to have that little Micro USB installed, sort of a dongle in disguise. But I tried that and it still won't recognize any M-Audio hardware.

OK, I got it to run. It turns out that Microsoft installed its own driver instead of the M-Audio USB. So I re-installed the right driver and Pro Tools Essentials now comes up. But I don't like what I found out. When I tried one of the demo songs, guess what? NO SOUND. The only playback device listed is the Micro USB; where's my sound card? I'm sorry, this makes no sense. Am I still missing something?

I'm on XP. To summarize, here is what I'm experiencing. Is this the way it's intended to work?

1. You must have the M-Audio Micro USB "dongle" inserted to run PTE. Apparently the KeyStudio 49 keyboard is not sufficient.

2. PTE won't recognize any other audio interface than the Micro, so any speakers or other gear plugged into your sound card have to be removed and plugged into the Micro.

If this is true, the whole outfit goes back to Fry's.

You would need to have your speakers plugged into the Dongle or Interface. In this case the Micro.

What this guy is saying. Since the Micro is your Pro Tools interface, your speakers/headphones need to be connected to that since that is where all of your sound is going to be coming from.

Hi Dick,

I am a new of Pro Tool, same as you that the pro just stuck on loading plug-ins, the support say that would be better to uninstall IE8, but I would like to try out to make change on the registratio at first.

Could please tell me what we need to change on the registration?

Thank you!

Peter

It's as simple as changing a registry entry to "AllowCookies". It worked here. I will try to find the step by step instructions.
