Digi 003 and Digital Performer 5.13
Hello all,
I've been a DP user since it was just P and I've been asked to work in a studio that has Pro Tools and a Digi 003. No Offense to you PT guys, but I can't stand the user interface in PT, because I've used DP for more than 10 years and I'm used to the way that DP flows and all its key commands. Plus I don't have time to learn PT right now, I gotta get to work. Now that you know my dilemma, my question is: Does anyone know if DP will work as the front end to the Digi 003? If not, does anyone know if PT7 has a way to import the key commands from DP? Thanks guys |

Re: Digi 003 and Digital Performer 5.13
The key commands for PT are written in stone. No modifying. I have an 003R and DP works with the DIGI coreaudio driver that's installed with PT. With the 003 series you'll be dealing with latency (no MOTU style through hardware monitoring) so you'll have to run with low buffers, but with DP you get delay compensation which depending on the plugs can save a lot of tweaking. The 003 and the 003R have the same I/O configuration, but you get the control surface on the 003 which is tightly integrated with PT. There's some type of Midi Mode controller functionality that allows you to control third party instruments, DAWS and devices, but I have no idea of what's available as far as templates for MMC, emulation modes, etc. Maybe someone else can jump in on that.

Re: Digi 003 and Digital Performer 5.13
Thanks Chuck,
Can you tell me how I'll know if the DIGI coreaudio driver is installed? Is there some option I'm missing in DP or does some DIGI file have to be in some folder somewhere for DP to access it? Appreciate it. |

Re: Digi 003 and Digital Performer 5.13
If the coreaudio driver is functioning, the 003 will appear as a device in the DP hardware setup dialog and you'd also be able to see/select it as an audio device in other apps. Check Audio MIDI Setup - if it's available as an audio option, it will work with DP. If it doesn't appear as an option, you'd have to find someone there who knows what happened with the HAL plugin or reinstall PT. From what I understand, you DO NOT want to install the standalone coreaudio driver version that is available as a separate download since you will still be running PT and it causes problems with that.
One issue is that you run the risk of de-stabilizing the system by installing/reconfiguring software and drivers. I'd make sure you have a good clone in case things go south or create your own system drive with DP and PT installed so you're not messing with the existing installation. |
