Tracking Out Instruments into Protools! Need Help!
Ok, I figured out how to sync My Fantom up to PT! Say I'm using a Mono track to record the kick pattern out of the fantom into PT..M-Powered! I can hear the kick good but when I go to replay the part that was recorded, I only get the tail end of the first kick! Like maybe it's a Latency issue with the FastTrack PRo interface! I know that M-box has zero latency..I think! Only off by some milli secs when it tells PT to record the track! Are there any settings that I can mess with to fix this problem so that I can continue to use PT in conjuction with my Roland Fantom tracks! Someone please help a brother out! Thanks

Hi.
It's usually a good idea to start the session off with two bars of "sync-time" before recording the song. That will give the units more than enough time to sync up, and you're good to go. My advice - start your song at bar 3.

Re: Tracking Out Instruments into Protools! Need Help!
You could do what PT Lover suggested, that would work. But when it comes to making drops, you'll still need to compensate for that. And the M-Box itself does have latency, but that does not have to create ploblems, you just have to create work arounds. For instance, if you were to create drops in your song, and take away the last measure of a 4 measure loop, say maybe right before the chorus comes in, when you go to put that next 4 bar loop in place, you'll have to leave a little piece of the previous 4 bar loop in place in order to compensate for the latency problem. That way, even though the kick comes in half-way, even in the very begining of the loop, if you leave the very tail end of the previous loop in its place, you will then have a full kick when it's plays back.
Make sense...?! Try it and you'll see excatly what i mean. That's what i have to do all the time in order to compensate for my chopped off kicks, but hey, it works like a charm and you never can tell. You can get real precise cuts within that kick track if you switch to slip mode vice grid, obviuosly for the freedom of movement with the playback marker... |
