system for Digi 002

Hi guys! Well, we've more or less made the decision to upgrade to a Digi 002 (the mixer, not the rack version), and it obviously wants a pretty kickass system (dual processor, 512mb ram, etc.).
Well, a Mac would be nice, but I don't think we can swing a G5.
I'm fairly computer ignorant, although the wife is an IT manager with more knowledge than me. Now, my needs are minimal as they go, not generally midi based, not too many plugins, with editing more likely simple than complex. Can anybody give me some suggestions about where they would go to acquire or build the system, and how much I'm looking at for a minimum to midrange outlay? Any help is greatly appreciated- we've just started spec'ing systems.-Richie

as a fellow newbie...the general consensus here at the DUC is the "allenstein machine" which is in the forum "best desktops for PTLE" It's basically an AMD 64 3400+ with all the goodies...supposedly it's better than the dual 2.0 G5 and anything that Intel has to offer...and it's under $1,000...
